Unless you've been hiding out in one of Saddam's 'lil bunkers for the last six months, you must have heard of Apple's iPhone, the most anticipated and most talked about gadget in the known universe. Steve Jobs says it will revolutionize the tech behind cell phones and change the way we interact with technology. I have to say, from what I've seen so far, I agree.

A few days ago Apple finally released the iPhone's US launch date - 29 June, with a series of simple yet brilliant ad's: http://www.apple.com/iphone/ads/.

Expect to see Apple cultists camping outside Cingular Wireless stores across the US come June 28.
But don't expect to see the iPhone anywhere in Asia until next year.

As our own madali would famously say:

"Boner!"

I'll probably be getting this at some point. Perhaps in another year or more, by which time my 80GB iPod Video will be (hopefully) too worn out for use. Otherwise there's little value in the purchase.

I'm sure one of our tech-geeks will challenge that statement with a showel. It does look fascinating, though.

I meant little value in the purchase for me.

Everything has value, some useful purpose. Even cow dung.

P.S. What tech geeks? I haven't seen one in this section for ages!

The way some people have been ranting about this gadget to me, they will try to convince you too that it adds value to you!  Tongue

I would like to get this phone too, but as with ak, i'll give it time unless I really find a use for it.

This is just the usual Apple over-marketing.

The iPhone has nothing that hasnt already been released in most phones.

Fuck anyone that buys into this hype. If the iPhone becomes successful, it will be just another proof that to sell a product, just spend billions into ads, marketing, and the correct buzz words.

The ads make me so angry.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/ads/ad4/

A billion phones already have that for like the last 2-3 years, you asshole. Yes, 5 years back, there was ewap, a watered down internet, but not for a long time!

"The internet...on your phone"

I bet a lot of people go, "Wow!" just because a nice ad made it seem revolutionary.

I dont think there is one unique feature that iPhone has.

What makes the iPhone revolutionary is its interface and how you interact with its OS. No other device, forget phone, has the kind of fluid interface Apple is showing off here, not to mention the way you navigate using your finger tips.

Yes, it doesn't have 3G yet but so what? 3G is not available everywhere in the US and where it is, it costs $60 minimum per month. Compare that to Wi-Fi which is largely free or just $20 per month from T-Mobile. I read somewhere that 2nd generation iPhone's will have 3G as well as GPS.

This is the first cell phone to run on Apple's OS which is based on Unix. So yes, that's revolutionary. The iPhone will do to the cell phone industry what the iPod did to the music industry when it was launched. 40+ million iPod's sold. That says something.

Yes, that says what I said. People respond to millions spent on marketing.

So basically, the only thing that iPhone has going for it is that its sort of pretty?
