Do respond to Kaytee's points first:
-Joining politics wont help the country, you know that, I know that, everyone knows that... its a dirty system and the good only survive way at the top because they feed the bay boys all the way through the system - Why look at the movie as a message? Why not as a concept, as a direction and acting effort. Every movie doesn't need to have a message, and a socially responsible one at that. It wasn't a mass movie, so hopefully it isn't appealing to mass (read illliterate minds) to go on a shooting spree - By the way, murder and other bad news makes more of an impact then good efforts, media capitalizes this stuff, and there's no better way to get the message across
Now for AK's comments... - To say that RDB made a music video out of its story or concept is belittling it, i don't agree with it at all... The movie worked on many levels, and though the ending maybe not be ideal, it was history repeating itself. And history will continue to unless mankind doesn't fix its approach to problems - I am not defending Bollywood cinema, all I am saying is that if it got there, it was good enough to be there. Its no surprise that it lost, just as its no surprise thats its competing in the category, because it is as good as those movies, but appeals to different sentiments, history and culture.
As for a detailed analysis/appreciation of the movie, read my review posted earlier in this thread... to supplement it, I would just say that its a very sensible, intelligent film, made with a appropriate star cast, touching issues that the youth want to do something about, but cant in the existing system, for they fear that they are too small. When a revolution takes place, it isn't done in a socially responsible way, its done in a manner to raise eyebrows, objections and debate, which is exactly what this movie, like Black Friday and all of Madhur Bhandarkar's movies, have been successful in achieving.
