For someone who thinks that the man is going senile, you seem to care the most about his opinion. Anyway, I failed to see what are the ridiculous choices in the list you posted. Uninspired perhaps, but to me there is nothing outrageously bad in this list.

I care for his opinion not because it matters to me (it stopped being relevant a few years ago) but because of how largely influential Ebert is generally. You can bet people will be putting up some of those films on their queue on netflix and torrent sites if they've not heard of them, which is always a good thing for underappreciated flicks. The man has gone very soft recently (perhaps its the cancer, but who knows...maybe old age, fear of death etc), that you can't deny - but he writes very well, certainly better than any other professional critic out there and his love for what he likes can be infectious.

If you keep in mind these are supposed to be best of the decade (that's 10 years worth of movies from all over the world!) then names such as My Winnipeg, and Me and You and Everyone We Know seem like "outrageously bad" choices (Your words, not mine). I just said they were "ridiculous", given the time frame, which I believe they are. I don't know about you, but I've seen each and every one of those films and frankly the overall list doesn't even seem exciting. Of course, any such list is subjective and I have no right over them, but I would have thought that a man of Ebert's stature would have thought about the longetivity of some of these choices. To end my rant, compare this list to the end of decade list for the 90's, you know, the one he famously did with Scorcese. Each and everyone of those (save for perhaps Hoop Dreams which I haven't seen), is a class act by anyone's measure.

You've got a point here Fizz, his 90's list looks way stronger, but may be it is because the 90's are regarded as the better decade for cinema,

As for My Winnipeg, I haven't seen it and frankly it is not that appealing for me, but I have heard so much praise about it when it came out and many critics put it in their top 10 of 2007. I assume you have seen it, no?

Yes, you can read about it here, good, though in retrospect, not all that great a film. Very forgettable.

I love the feel of High Fidelity and it is not ur regular sappy love stories though it could have been given the plot it had, but it was fresh and different.

I need to check it out, it seems like a definitive Rom-Com film and everyone is absolutely enamored by it.

Fizz, Ebert never really puts much importance to lists. He does them because he knows its expected of him, but he nowadays takes a more zen approach to films. He probably tried to think of films that popped up in his head, rather than take a detailed look through his reviews and see which films deserve to be there.

Mad may be correct: that is exactly what Ebert must have done. He updates his Twitter every 5 minutes, so there isn't much time for making lists...

Yes, I sense he know's he's going to die soon so he wants his "last words" to be tweets.

This list I have *not* given up on.

I have rewatched almost all of my candidates for the list, and in another few days should have my locked Best of the Decade list ready.

Just have to rewatch a couple more such as High Fidelity which Kaytee reminded me about, and others...

i find it ironic that "Zodiac" didn't make the top 10 list of 2007 of many websites and critics but it's featured in probably all the lists i have checked in the last weeks.big proof that ppl didn't bother watching it back then but they did later on.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

I like Zodiac but do not think it amounts to anything of legendary status.
