As for excluding 2009, I haven't seen any of the major quality films of 2009. Otherwise you would have seen an Avatar or Inglourious Basterds in my list.

In that case, I suggest you remove the words "excl. 2009 films" from your heading. It doesn't help to keep them there.

It doesn't matter whether it is there or not. By the time everybody has his list in there and the collective list is built, I have a feeling that some of my odd choices will be long gone pretty early in the process. I just want to be accurate, because a film like Avatar is the kind of films someone like me would have on his list.

I don't mind it at all and it doesn't affect anything. I thought it was confusing (and it is, but not after your explanation; which proves the point) so alerted you.

We have 3 lists in the Best of the Decade thread, and I would hope we will have more in the coming days, because honestly it just takes a little concentration of the mind over a few days only...

OK AK, I can see where the confusion comes from, I would call it my 2000-2008 Top 20, is this  better?

I had a strong hunch Shariq would put Unbreakable at the very top of his list. (It certainly deserves to be in most people's Best Decade list.)

Actually, I was surprised at myself how high Vanilla Sky ended up. I didn't know I liked it so much until I rated it relatively.

Now, I need to see Maqbool.

It would be nice to know what you thought of it. Not only is it Vishal's first serious movie as well as Bollywood's first serious Shakespearean adaptation, it still remains his least commercial and best movie.

KT, Heat is 1995 film, Jerry Maguire is a 1996 film, and Fightclub is a 1999 film, all are ineligible for the list.

Kaytee, your list has been moved to the dedicated Best of the Decade 2000-2009 thread. This is the discussion thread...

And thanks for reminding me about High Fidelity. Totally forgot about that! Will need to consider how/if it can make it into my list...

Kaytee, you have done a good thing but posting your list. Now you can edit/update it over the next few days...you will now think about it when you drive, when you work, when you eat, when you shit, when you shower, when you...

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

I had missed this and stumbled upon it while reading about Bad Lieutenant...but Ebert has also put out his list of best films of the decade and guess who tops it! Some of the choices are strangely ridiculous (the man has frankly lost it...he's been this soft for sometime now) but others are quite inspiring. I'm just glad to see Silent Light get the love it rightfully deserves. Full list HERE

1. "Synecdoche, New York" (2008).
2. "The Hurt Locker" (2009).
3. "Monster" (2004).
4. "Juno" (2007).
5. "Me and You and Everyone We Know" (2005).
6. "Chop Shop" (2008).
7. "The Son" (2002).
8. "The 25th Hour" (2003).
9. "Almost Famous" (2000).
10. "My Winnipeg" (2008).

Others (alphabetically)

"Adaptation" (2002)
"The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call, New Orleans" (2009)
"City of God" (2002)
"Crash" (2004)
"Kill Bill Vols.1 and 2" (2003 + 2004)
"Minority Report (2002)
"No Country for Old Men" (2007)
"Pan's Labyrinth" (2006)
"Silent Light" (2009).
"Waking Life" (2001)

For someone who thinks that the man is going senile, you seem to care the most about his opinion. Anyway, I failed to see what are the ridiculous choices in the list you posted. Uninspired perhaps, but to me there is nothing outrageously bad in this list.

We don't have to *love* Ebert to care about his opinion. Besides, in my case, I do love him, but I also hate him.
