I'll get the ball rolling soon as I'm done with DIFF.

I am embarking on this project from today...my process will be completely transparent, and I will post my internal thoughts and rough lists as I make them shorter and shorter...

How come no one brought this up earlier?

This has been raging online on many sites for weeks now. The two personal favourite lists compiled so far (probably because I generally agree with them) are:

1 -  Time Online (Excellent film for the top spot!)
2 - The AV Club

#8 of Time Online's list is impossible!

Let's aim for 20 films per individual list.

If or how we will compile them into a collective WM list is a matter for a much later stage. For now, just concentrate on being happy and fully satisfied with your own personal list.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

Animatedude is right (even a broken clock...). Lets put this away, and focus on best-of list for 2009. We can do a decade best next year.

These Best-of threads exist so whoever likes can post in them. There is no obligation. I am updating my list on a day-by-day basis, as titles come to mind...

For Best Decade list: I don't think anything I will see in the next few weeks/months is going to change anything, so I believe I will lock my 20 Favorite Films of the Decade before the year's end. Since this list is the most *important* of all lists, it should be very personal and not limited by 'group dynamics.' You guys are free to formulate and publish your individual lists if and as and when you please...

For Best Films of 2009: I need to see a lot more movies, so will continue to work on this until next year; up to February. This must be a WM group effort.

For Worst Films of 2009: We should be done collecting names by this weekend, and I will publish an article on the WM main website before new year. WM group effort.

Now that I have reached 20 Favorite Films of the Decade, a rule I will use for myself is I can only remove and substitute existing selections. Final step will be ordering them from 1 to 20!

This will makes things more challenging and exciting!

I am giving myself 6 more days for this list project...

I've sorted & cropped the list to my Top 20 for now. Hopefully I won't see anything ground-breaking in the next few weeks, or re-watch the ones I've cropped out to reconsider them. Of those, only 2 from the last three years of the decade!!

I had a strong hunch Shariq would put Unbreakable at the very top of his list. (It certainly deserves to be in most people's Best Decade list.)

Now, I need to see Maqbool.

I updated my Top 20 films of the decade. Just like Shariq, unless something of 2009's films blow my mind away, this will be my final list.

Good to see your list. Why did you "exclude 2009 films"? By the way, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence needs a spell check.

Thanks AK for the correction, already fixed. This film is one of my favorite Spielberg films ever, too bad not that many people appreciate it.

As for excluding 2009, I haven't seen any of the major quality films of 2009. Otherwise you would have seen an Avatar or Inglourious Basterds in my list.

In that case, I suggest you remove the words "excl. 2009 films" from your heading. It doesn't help to keep them there.
