Neither - was not going to watch it anyway. But now I can back-up my dislike for this movie with cynical facts!

Its just an expression. Relax. I know you wouldnt have gone to watch this movie, but every movie will have its cynics and people who appreciate it. This hate SRK and KJo thing is getting old.

How can it be getting old? They're still making movies.

Yup... and they will continue to make movies until they make money and cater to the classes and the masses... eventhough you may not like his films, they have all been successes and are each memorable in their own right, whether for music, costumes, casting and above all characterisation...

Agreed, and they will probably continue to be disliked by me. Unless KJo does something like a drastic change and make a post-apocalyptic testosterone action movie (or so...).

Btw, are you following SRK on twitter? He's quite entertaining.

Out of curiosity Shariq, what films of the duo have you seen and made you so spiteful and hateful to them?  Is it because you can see how huge is their stardom thus impact in the Indian cinema landscape? Because I have seen much worst films from Bollywood but I have never seen you react to them as strongly.

It's the school of film-making that these belong to that doesn't confirm with my choice of cinema. I don't hate KJo. I dislike him and so keep away from him. The one I hate is Aditya Chopra. His movies I can't stand and will go to lengths to be away from (I've walked out of supermarkets and sat in my friends cars with my ears finger-plugged if the soundtrack of his movies are playing). This comes from my extreme dislike contrasted with the general love & success of DDLJ. It is an emotional response, and of my choosing.

To put things in perspective, there is only *one* movie screening that I have ever walked out of in my life: Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. It has done its bit to keep me away from Yashraj & Dharma production films that are emotional, sappy melodramas.

I have seen, and will watch SRK movies that seem to be distinct (Dil Se..., Mai Hoon Na, etc).

It's sad to see where the Yash Raj banner has reached after it was taken over by Adi, Yash Chopra made classics like Silsila, Kabhi Kabhi, Deewar, etc while Adi succummed to mediocre crowd pleasers which don't add any value to the banner. They can claim that the times have changed but that doesn't mean the roots of the banner had to change, the can still invest and churn out small indie movies if they wanted.

That is some strong allergy Shariq to the sweet and charming melodies of DDLJ Tongue I don't know what more to say to you.

Shariq, you are one of the few people I know who does not like DDLJ, but I respect your views. Writing off feel good, sappy, emotional, melodramas is writing off a large chunk of bollywood, hell, hollywood too for that matter.

Yes, it is. And this alienates me from movies that are otherwise liked. Melodramas like Capote or Assassination of Jesse James really get to me. Nothing wrong with feel-good movies though. Shawshank Redemption and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest still ranks as some of the best ever!

I would not categorize neither Capote nor The Assassination of Jesse James as melodrama, they are drama. Melodrama by definition is drama that is characterized by exaggerated and heightened emotions, stereotypical characters, and interpersonal conflicts. Neither films fall under this definition.
