The Hangover (Phillips, 2009)

The Hangover
is in its way to be yet another touchdown for
Warner Bros.
This comedy was projected to make a mild business of $20 in its opening weekend. Now it is in its way to a smashing $45 millions opening weekend. The first Friday numbers are $16.75 millions which is huge for a comedy with no star power, and with a very modest production budget which is reportedly around $27.5 millions.
Furthermore, its opening against
Land of The Lost
the Latest Will Ferrell's vehicle which has a reported budget of $100 millions, but it is expected to be a huge dud at the boxoffice. The first day collections is only $7.38 millions, which translates to around $20 millions opening weekend.
I think what prompted this great response for The Hangover is the fact it is coming from the director of Old School, which is well invoked in the trailer and the poster. Also it is really well received critically with
75% score @Rotten Tomatoes
and
73% @ Meta Critics
.
I really am looking forward to this comedy, and I hope it won't be too botched, censorship-wise, when it comes to the screen in the Gulf.

this movie is already a hit, warner bros green lit a sequel months ago,it looks like an accessible raunchy comedy that will satisfy both critics (lifeless 40 plus folks) and the mainstream crowd.ppl will wank over it this summer then a few months later on it will end up in wal mart $5 bins, that's when everyone picks it up and go "man..that movie was so overrated,i can't believe i just paid $5 for it"
remember the"Wedding Crashers"? i haven't seen it yet but that scene in the trailer with the little baby's penis is just very offensive,i hope the movie is better than that.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

The Hangover
(Phillips, 2009)
IMDB Link
"Hey, this is Phil. Leave me a message, or don't, but do me a favor - don't text me, it's gay."
2009 has not been a great year for memorable comedies and the poster for “The Hangover” proudly claiming that it is from the director of “Old School” did not make my cock hard, since it was not a movie I really enjoyed.
But “The Hangover”? Absolutely brilliant. Funniest movie in a while. Maybe because we get a shake up and don’t see our usual comedy faces that most of us are tired of by now. Like, who was this guy Zach Galifianakis? He was funny!
The only guy I was familiar with was Ed Helms, due to his character in “The Office” and he has not had much face time in films, so glad to see him in “The Hangover”. He’s not funny as his Andy character, but Ed Helms is still one of the funniest guys around today.
Structurally, the film is almost like “Dude, Where’s My Car?”. In that film, the characters, after a wild night, wake up and don’t know where their car is and have to trace their steps back to remember what happened the day before. In “The Hangover”, they have a wild night, they don’t remember anything, and they have to retrace their steps, but instead of losing their car, they lose their friend. Dude, Where’s My Friend.

Oh yes, this was a wonderfully funny movie. The best R-rated comedy since
Harold & Kumar go to Whitecastle
.

I feel the movie will be snipped big time. I want to watch it on the big screen but also dont want to miss out on the R rated stuff.

Kaytee, watch it on the big screen. The cuts are very little and negligible. The movie is mostly intact. Read the
"Parental Advisory"
section of the movie in IMDb and you'll get an idea of what is cut due to nudity.

I will also echo Shariq's sentiments - the cuts are very minor, quick snips at the obvious nudity that doesn't really affect your film viewing experience. I say, go for it because this is certainly the funniest (and funnest) film of the year.

One of the funniest movies of the year comes from a director who was written off after
Starsky and Hutch
and
School of Scoundrels
bombed. But people forgot that this is the same guy who made
Road Trip
and
Old School
which were both kinda funny and got an Oscar nomination for Adapted Screenplay for
Borat
.
Like Mad mentioned, this movie does well mainly because we dont generally see these actors do comedy and to most of us they are nobody's that is why there is no extra baggage involved. Looking at the history of
Zach Galifianakis
it seems he has starred in a lot of movies but never got noticed till
The Hangover
made so much money.
Bradley Cooper
is coming out of the
Alias
shadow and been doing some lead roles in small films but none of them where he has to funny. So it was a complete surprise seeing these guys in a screwball comedy.
A nice and funny movie that deserves all the recognition it is getting. The director cameo was really funny too and nice to see
Heather Graham
back in action.

Really though, apart from
Zach Galifianakis
, none of the other actors are really doing real comedy. They just play their characters straight and a little frustrated. the situations just make them hillarious.
Bradley Cooper
does 'cool' really well though: "Lady in the Leapord Dress..."
