Yeah turn to bollywood instead... where you might renew your faith in good hollywood movies... hehe

i'm sick and tired of forgettable good movies,i want great!

Then stop looking at Hollywood movies to fulfill this need, because greatness happens rarely.

I've read almost ALL the books of Sherlock Holmes out there, and I didn't get that feel from the trailer. Hell, the Star Trek - TNG part with Professor Moriarty did a better job.

True. They were more true to the original feel of Holmes. The reason these books were amazing were not because of suggestive jokes or crazy action but the sheer genius of Holmes, and of course at times, Moriarty or Irene Adler.

By the way, when I visited London some years ago, I'd even been to 221 b Baker Street, which has been turned into a sort of Sherlock museum - an exact match to the description of his home in the books. Very nice and recommended.

And Watson seems queer in the trailer, never liked Jude Law. Someone on IMDB called it "Sherlock Holmes and the Tropic Thunder".

RDJ is making an arse of himself and is butchering the character in the trailer, way to go Guy Ritchie.

I wouldn't blame Ritchie for it. This is EXACLTY what the studio wanted, and hence they hired Ritchie. If they wanted a proper Victorian adaptation, they wouldn't have given him the job.

I don't know if or when I will see Sherlock Holmes, so I am counting on many you WM Citizens to review it. If I can read more than 4 reviews, I could imagine the whole movie in my mind...

No, ak, you don't need to read reviews to see it in your mind. You don't want to see it in your mind. This was a bad bad bad film. It was evil. It was a curse sent from that madman Ritchie. Don't ignore this movie - be aware of it and steer clear!

ppl like Guy Richie are making the world more mediocre...fuck this movie! not bad just the epitome of everything i hate about mainstream crap.

the fact critics liked is sad....and the it's been said the only reason this was successful is because many ppl want to watch Avatar but they find out it's sold out..

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

Allow me guys to be the dissenting voice on Sherlock Holmes, I thought it was a wonderful time and money well spent on the ticket, I enjoyed it so much.

Let me profess that I have no previous attachment nor loyalty to the classical view of Holmes and Watson. I know about them from several media but I was never a fan. So I am merely judging the film on it's own merits. I thought that Downey Jr. made a wonderful Holmes and I think his chemistry with Jude Law's Watson was spot on, you can also feel a hint of homoerotic tension between them which made the humor even better. Mark Strong made a great villain in this film, he was creepy as hell and certainly a worthy opponent. Rachel McAdams was mostly wasted but her presence on the screen is good enough for me. The Hans Zimmer score for the film is so wonderful, it really stood out for me. One thing I didn't like is the CGI action sequences, like the one at the duck, it was not well-done, and unnecessary.

I thought Guy Ritchie's direction and his hyper active editing and the slow motion thing he does, I thought it was exciting, and injected so much energy that made the experience the more fun for me. I can't wait for the sequel, and it will happen with the crap load of money this film is making, which passed $300 millions worldwide today. Rumor has it that Brad Pitt will play Professor Moriarty Holmes arch nemesis in the sequel, and I think Pitt can run with such a role. Anyway I would give this film 3.5/5.

That ending, mentioning The Professor, is a cheap rip-off of the closing of Batman Begins.

Sherlock Holmes

Guy Ritchie must have had his hands full when he attempted this story, as it required a lot of research to get the tone, colour, feel, mood of this film to look the way it does, and it works! Its too gray at times, which may induce sleep, and as it is a detective story set in the late 19th century, its not meant to be fast paced or quick action.

Typical with Sherlock Holmes, or any other investigation, the clues which solve the puzzle are always revealed at the end, and this movie is no exception. Its a thinker, and its a well made film in its genre.

Robert Downey Junior, Rachel McAdams and Jude Law have done great work, special mention for Robert's accent as Holmes and his expressions (stiff upper lip!)

Not all that we expected, with a misleading trailer which makes it seem action packed, this film is decent, but is not a must see.
