Look at life and films, differently...

« on: February 04, 2007, 11:33:AM »

Another shocker by Director Madhur Bhandarkar, this movie deals with the lives of people around a traffic signal.

Beggars, people selling wares, prostitutes (both male and female), newspaper sellers, car cleaners, con artists, etc etc all make up the mega cast of the movie...

The system is exposed at various levels, from fruit sellers to politicians, as is Madhur's style... and leaves you abruptly at the end...

The various incidents make up a collage rather than a story, and it makes you sit up and rethink of the way things are done in India... is there a way around it?

Most of the actors do a great job, but Kunal Khemu, Konkona Sen Sharma, the drug addict and the horny cop deserve special mention...

More enlightening than entertaining, this movie is another good example of real cinema, with appropriate costumes, makeup and characterization

4/5

That makes it 2 good reviews and 1 bad. I am still torn coz I didnt think his Page 3 or Corporate were great movies. Just having a different subject does not make the movie entertaining. Madhur can get people to act for sure but I still have my doubts about his writing abilities. Page 3 was all over the place and so was Corporate. I will need to hear really positive stuff about this movie and only then will I commit my AED 17.50 to it.

Narrative is the poison of cinema...There’s nothing more beautiful than elusiveness in cinema.
