Look at life and films, differently...

Saw the premier show last nite... I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this film since it was announced. Being a conspiracy buff and a Dan Brown fan, I enjoyed his books and The Da Vinci Code film. This film too, was a good watch, with memories of the story moving the film along in my head before it unraveled on screen.

Dan Brown's writing is very visual, and there were certain scenes I had imagined while I read the book. The film simply blew those scenes away. at 163 minutes long, it is filled with heavy dialogue on art, literature, symbols and history of the period of the Illuminati and Church in the 1600s. That makes it difficult for some people to digest less as a film but more as a lesson in trivia.

The end result though, is a film which ends with hope, and no controversy for the Church. The beauty of the Vatican and the faith of the people have been shown well in the film, which looks at the eternal question of Science vs. God.

3/5

haha, that is hilarious. He essentially gets it right, except in my book, this film is much worse.

I guess they should learn their lesson. Don't make movies based on books if you can't do it right. Stupid flick.

A mixture of peer’s pressure and lack of other interesting films to watch led me to watch Angels & Demons a film I vowed that I will only watch if I saw it on TV. I don’t know whether it was because I haven’t read the book, my low expectations, or a mix of both, but I really enjoyed the film. It was a step up for the franchise. While being better than Da Vinci’s Code is not exactly a high praise, but it was cinematically a better told movie. It was still talkative and featured loads of expositions, but still it would keep you interested enough. There is not much to say about the characters, they were bland and generic, and of coarse in order for our hero Professor Langdon to save the day, policemen are supposed to be inept and all around useless. The killer in the film is plain and forgettable, and the actual villain is not colorful, two elements were better in the Da Vinci’s code, but other than that it is not a bad thriller on it is own. I give it 3/5.

Just because it made a lot of money does not make it a good movie.
Angels and Demons was a very average book which rode on the unnecessary controversy that DaVinci Code's publisher's orchestrated. And the film made from the book is no better.

The plot of the book (and the film) are so full of cliche's, that even my wife who has never read the book was able to predict what is going to happen. Tom Hanks looks old and tired and if there is an Oscar for a wooden face the female lead is sure to grab that. One of the most hilarious scene is the assasin leaving Blagdon and the girl alonebeacuse they are not armed.

Someone who remembers his/her highschool physics should be able to list the science errors. (eg:a aerial detonation is much more damaging than the underground one and would have wiped out Rome in reality)
My rating 1/5
