TEJA mein hoon, Mark idhar hai !!

« on: July 27, 2008, 01:40:PM »

Ive not seen the original but I hear it was a rave when it was released. Now we a sequel to Tron and it stars Jeff Bridges and it is aptly titled TR2N. Here is a very shitty bootleg trailer but it still does the trick...

I'm sure Oddy will have a thing or two say about TRON. Its from "his" generation Wink

I've not seen it myself either but hear its a cult (which should be reason enough to stay away from sequel territory).

I've seen it, and remember most of the visuals. It was fantastic when released - but I only remember the effects. Oh, those digital bikes riding like light, and making 90-degree turns without change in speed - it was the coolest thing I had seen in a movie then.

Can't say much about the story or characters - was possibly too much for my young mind. Will check the trailer when I get home...

If there was ever a film that deserved the "sci-fi cult" tag, then it's TRON.

I grew up watching this film and owned an original VHS of it back in the early 80's (which I completely wore out). Back then, during the first few years of the home computer and game consoles boom, the concept, execution and visual effects of the film were simply mind-boggling, especially that legendary lightcycles battle. This was the seminal CGI movie, and although Star Wars preceded it, it still relied on a mixture of simple computer effects and heavy use of physical models. In TRON, the CGI was used exclusively to depict a fictional world inside the computer where all CGI is generated. This sort of "circular" vision was unheard of, and to see it on screen was the manifestation of every computer geek's tech wet dream (yours truly included) — we all wanted to be Flynn/Clu.

It goes without saying that I was cheering along with the crowd as I watched that bootleg, especially when Bridges appeared. TRON is still, to me, one of the most unique films I've ever seen. You can (by today's standards) rip the story to shreds, if you like, but that would be missing the point completely.

I've played and finished Tron 2.0, the game, on PC, and it's brilliant.

The choice of director seems to be spot-on. I was reading up on Joseph Kosinki, director of Tr2n. He was an architect picked by Fincher himself for his Anonymous Content to make ads. Here's two ads he's done:

Wow! For those who've seen the original, and remember the concepts, this looks finger-licking good.

Grid VFX Concept Test
Hi-Res (44.6Mb)
HD 480P (92.1Mb)
HD 720P (173Mb)
HD 1080P (244Mb)

And the video confirms the title as Tron Legacy. I did prefer Tr2n though.

Oh, and this comes in Digital 3D (RealD). I'll bet it will be a fantastic 3D experience, no matter how good/bad the movie turns out to be.

I'm glad you liked it.

One gripe though - the light-cycles have been updated to move in non-linear motion too, which isn't as awesome as it was in the original. The cycles there moves only in absolutely straight lines. All turns were EXACTLY 90-degree turns. I wish they had kept that.
